Fall Plant Care Tips

I know we don’t want to start talking about the “W” season yet, but it’s time to start thinking about it for your plants sake! Here are a few tips for how to ensure your plants make it through the cold season:

Stop fertilizing

Plants need an off season just like sports teams do! During the fall and winter, stop fertilizing your plants to give them a few months to focus on existing growth.

Decrease your watering schedule

With less sun and lower temps, your plants will likely need less water. I always recommend a moisture meter (this is the one I have) so you know exactly when your plants need water and don’t need to play the guessing game.

Continue leaf care

Don’t forget to dust leaves and check for pests! Getting rid of dust will ensure the leaves are able to soak up all the available sun. While you’re cleaning, keep an eye out for pests to avoid them spreading to nearby plants.

Increase humidity

Here in Minnesota, the air has gotten so dry that I’ve gotten static shocks from plant leaves! To add moisture back, add a humidifier or group plants together.

Wait to repot

Wait until spring to repot any new or existing plants. Since plants aren’t actively growing during the colder season, they’ll have a harder time adapting to a new home.

As needed:

Adjust plant locations

When the cold air hits and the heat turns on, make sure that your plants aren’t above a heat vent or near drafty windows!

Use grow lights

If you want to give your plants a little boost, give them a grow light or two! I have two of these lights and my plants love them.

BREAKING: A White Girl Loves Fall

Here’s a huge surprise to everyone: I am a white girl who loves fall. I know. But let’s move past that, because I want to talk about this, okay? Are we good?

The leaves have started changing and pumpkin spice lattes have been out for WEEKS. There isn’t enough time in the day for me to enjoy all the wonderful fall activities, so I’ve put together so many lists of things to do in fall, why I love it and what to look forward to. Because who doesn’t love a good list? And even more, who doesn’t love fall?!Read More »

With Every End Comes a New Beginning

I know I’m a few days late with the month in review! It’s been a very long last couple of weeks. For those of you who don’t know, my grandpa passed away at the end of October after a long battle with cancer. Thankfully, he didn’t suffer and wasn’t in pain. We all miss him so incredibly much, but we know he’s always with us. Tony and I spent the last 2 weekends in La Crosse, and it was so great to get together with everyone, even if the circumstances weren’t what we would have hoped for. With every ending there is a new beginning, and my family believes that rather than death being an ending, it’s a beginning to a new experience.

Thankfully, there were lots of positive things that happened during October as well!

Tony and I adopted a cat!! Her name is Luna and she is the cutest thing ever. Just look at her!

We visited apple orchards and I was my very best white girl.

We visited new coffee shops and brunch places. I even helped write a blog for Heritage! http://morriesheritage.com/brunch-guide-2016-minneapolis-edition/

We visited Baraboo for a day to take pictures of our cars in the gorgeous fall leaves.

Tony and I went to a very fancy gala dinner, where we ate deconstructed Soup. (Yes, that’s a real thing.)

Layne and I finally went to a Ben Rector concert that we bought tickets for in June!!

October was full of time spent with family and friends, and I’m so lucky to have all these amazing people in my life! Here’s to November, may it be just as full of love!

Falling for September

September is one of my favorite months, because that means fall is here! Hooray for fall! *grabs my PSL, Uggs and sits in a pile of leaves*

We went to multiple weddings, looking as fabulous as ever.

Went to Duluth twice, and was very let down when the hot air balloon festival was canceled. img_3044

Celebrated our 1 year anniversary!😍 img_3107

My dad didn’t get swept away by a hurricane (this could probably be a recurring event).

Visited more breweries because Wisconsin (this is definitely a recurring event).img_3045

Tony and I got to drive two very fabulous, very expensive cars to an airport hanger. img_3089

I started full time, not intern status!

Tony started his new job as a service advisor at the luxury dealership and hangs out with rich people all day.

As per usual, I took fancy hipster coffee pictures.img_3110

It was national drink beer day and national coffee day, and I absolutely participated in both. 🍻 ☕️

Toms had a warehouse sale and I got so excited that I went two days in a row.

There’s only 3 months left of 2016 and I don’t really know what to do with myself. I’m looking forward to finally doing fall activities like pumpkin patches and apple orchards and I’ve already started drinking all the pumpkin spice things!
